6 reasons why short URL’s are useful

I started a short URL website not long ago and I wanted to discuss the advantages of using these free internet tools. First off the purpose of this tool is to turn a long URL into a short one, for example:

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/Toronto+ON/#a/maps/l:::
Toronto:ON::CA:43.64854:-79.385368:city:Toronto/m:hy
b:14:43.668488:-79.392826:0::/io:0:::::f:EN:M:/e

becomes

http://skeefurl.com/QRJZQ/

Advantages:

1. Link will not break up in emails
2. Fits where space is limited (IRC, chat, text messages)
3. Cloak/redirect referral links
4. Easy to remember
5. Ability to make custom link paths (example: http://skeefurl.com/awesome/)
6. Track hits
