Google introduces lively.com

by Bryn Youngblut on July 8, 2008

Today Google announced the start of lively.com, a browser based add-on that allows anyone with a google account to create and customize their own avatar (character). Currently you can choose between 10 base avatars to customize.

Google wants web browsing to be less static and allow a 3D virtual experience. You can customize your own room (world) from scratch or use one of the many pre-made templates to start from. More features include adding furniture and moving/rotating it anywhere as well as animating your words with your character laughing when you type ‘lol’, ‘rofl’ or ‘haha’. There’s many more fun things you can do so go check it out.

One year later and … they have closed it down as the beginning of this year.

Now, one needs to go for a domain live.ly to some similar jingles.

Cheers!
