My Quit Drinking For A Month Challenge

by Bryn Youngblut on January 30, 2010

Starting February 1st I am going to attempt to not drink any alchohol for an entire month. I’ve wanted to try this for a long time now for many reasons.

Health is an obvious reason but more importantly I feel it will help my business greatly.

I often go out drinking with friends every weekend and some week nights and being hungover/tired really impacts my ability to build my business and get work done.

Whats funny is I just read the other day that Shoemoney has decided to quit drinking for a while too. I doubt I will quit drinking forever, I just want to see if I can do it for a month.

Anyways so I am going to a Toronto Maple Leafs game tonight which I will probably have a couple beers and then that will most likely be it until the end of February.

Cheers.

Bryn don’t kid yourself you have no chance of doing this. I’m not saying you are not going to try but in February its going to be hard. We have the super bowl Party next Sunday you are going to have some beers. Then in less then 2 weeks the Olympics stars and you will be having beers especially at the gold medal game when Canada brings it home. So therefore as much as i would like to see you do this and i would like to do it myself I will be the first to say this will not happen šŸ™ sorry if it sounds like im not supporting im just being realistic.

I pick January 30… šŸ™‚
Saturday night… A phone call… Friend calls… 10pm, time to go play some pool and open up a cold heineken for the game to go better… Thoughts in a back of a head about stopping drinking slowly disappear as a hotty walks by… etc… šŸ™‚ Weekends and holidays are tough… šŸ™‚

In case it looks confusing, the “f-u” was director to trevor, and the “do it” was directed to bryn. šŸ˜›

I’m on board with this as well. Lets see if my productivity changes if I eliminate a couple glasses of wine a week.

Did you intentionally pick February since it was the shortest month?

Just noticed the migration to Thesis. Looks good, Bryn.

Bryn Youngblut Reply:

Haha I actually didn’t even think about Feb because of that, but I guess it could seem like that.

Pretty much every post I’ve ever published has been written under the influence. I’d have to quit my blog!

Bryn Youngblut Reply:

Alright than you can never quit drinking because you write awesome shit.

That’s good that you are saying you have a small issue with drinking. When you get “old” and wise you will find you can drink and never get drunk. That’s what I do now. I’ll have a good time but I can’t remember the last time I was drunk.

Reply

Bryn Youngblut Reply:

I wouldn’t call it an issue it’s just more than necessary really.

I’ve done that and you will benefit. I think the increased energy, ease of getting up in the morning, and overall mental clarity are the biggest benefits. I found after a few days its like a fog lifts. With that said, drinking is fun too. Not sure you can attend hockey without drinking either šŸ˜‰

Good for you! I tried the same thing, unfortunately I didn’t last a week. Maybe I’ll try it again in February.

For health, it’s a very smart move. People don’t realize what kind of stress it puts on your heart, liver and brain, as well as your stomach. Drinking once in a blue moon (love that beer, too) is not a problem, but drinking more than once a week – or even once a week is stressful on the body.

I actually get pretty nasty Heart Palpitations after a night of too much drinking.

Look forward to your results in your personal experiment.

Hey Bryn, how was the game? It looked like they came out strong in the first 2, then flopped in the 3rd when Raycroft was in net šŸ™

the start was good then as usual they let goal after goal in. Hey so I noticed you were RSVP’d for the Toronto meetup, why didn’t you attend?

I evening up having some last minute family issues, I really wanted to go to this one. Did the girls from POF end up going?

Reply

Bryn Youngblut Reply:

yeah the POF girls showed up and talked a bit to everyone about the ad platform so that was cool.

That’s good man, you will find that you are way more productive when you slow down with the drinking.

Good luck!

Great idea, looks like quite a few internet marketers are stepping up their game and cutting down on (or out) alcohol. Partying can be fun, but it’s a lot harder to get work done while you’re hungover.

My roomate has been doing so for the past 4 years. Quits drinking for the whole month…. there is a big logic behind it… he says: “if I torture my body with alcohol every day for a year, then I can thank him for a month by not drinking”…..

also, he does it in february because its the shortest month of the year…. he always gets waisted the 1st of march at 12:00 am….. and this year will not be an exception…

I need to lose 28 kilos
I have noticed by not drinking even though its only been a few days I have much more energy and no more cramping in my legs.
I am only 25 and have destroyed my first half of my 20’s drinking and i don’t want to destroy anymore.
I want to get back into my old activities rock climbing, martial arts, decathlons and get a nice girl thats been so long denied to me for my addiction and weight.
So here we go. I think without the alcohol I can do it as I have so much more energy now.
