I think all your suggestions are good ideas and are definitely something any company or individual should look into securing domains and profiles but when sidewiki becomes more popular controlling reviews about you will be harder. I make cash online with reviews and ideas but people can easily negatively influence the people you are helping with bad reviews. You can never completely control the situation but with the advice above it makes it easier to control.

And, although you’re correct about this part: “If your name is Ryan White, then it’s unlikely you’ll have a reputation problem, since there are so many Ryan White’s on the web.”…

I would add that a person should still actively pursue your strategy with both their name and city/town everywhere, including inbound links where appropriate. Because although there may be plenty of ‘Ryan White’s around online, there may be only one in Yourtown, USA.

So if part of the story you’re trying to bury in the SE rankings has your location affiliated with the event, it could narrow down people’s searches quite a bit. Having Google stuffed with sites featuring your name AND location (myspace, facebook, blogs, profile accounts on a ton of forums, etc) can circumvent that problem quite a bit.

~ Fox
