First off some history about the creation of the Internet:
In October 1969 The first host-to-host Internet message is sent across ARPANET (the forerunner to the Internet) from UCLA to the Stanford Research Institute in the United States.
February 1973 FTP is born.
August 1988 IRC is created.
November 1990 The WWW was created.
Interesting facts:
In 1994:
- you could order Pizza from Pizza hut online
- shopping malls arrive on the Internet
- Arizona law firm of Canter & Siegel “spams” the Internet with email advertising green card lottery services; Net citizens flame back
- the first banner ads appear on hotwired.com in October. They were for Zima (a beverage) and AT&T
This is apparently the first ever banner ad for AT&T’s “You will” campaign.
Before September 1995 domain names were free.
In 1997, the domain name business.com sold for $150,000 US dollars.

WOW! Free domain names before 1995?? I wish that was right now. Lucky those people who knew about the internet at that time.
Anyways, great facts.
