I have always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I decided to go out and buy an acoustic guitar about 3 years ago and it has sat brand new in it’s case ever since. I was talking to a good friend of mine tonight and we talked about learning to play it and everything. He is amazing at playing the drums but has no guitar experience. On the other hand his room mate is amazing at playing guitar and I am pretty sure will help teach me.
I’ve always loved acoustic music (especially Jack Johnson) which is one main reason why I bought a guitar in the first place but now my ultimate goal as of now is to learn to play it so I can play a song for my girl. So if any of you have experience with or have any suggestions for me on where to start or what to do to start learning please let me know. Maybe I’ll post a video log some day soon with me playing a song or something to show my accomplishment :).

Bryn,
I teach music in my spare time. I would say that if you want to learn any instrument you should put aside at least 20 minutes every day to practice. If you can adhere to this you will quickly improve and learn to play. (Assuming you have a teacher or a method of learning the instrument) Its like anything – if you work at it you will get better – if you don’t you will not improve. Most people are not born with great musical abilities – they put in a lot of hard work to get there. Good luck with it.

Sorry I don’t know how to play the guitar but I know how to play keyboard and piano. Maybe I should learn how to play the guitar as well. I think it shouldn’t be too difficult and it’s mobile unlike a piano.

I actually have just begun a series of lesson video on youtube, for the MusicBanter forum community. Send me a message on there (same username on youtube and musicbanter if you want to see what i have up already, along with some examples of my playing) about what you want to learn and things you want clearing up, and I’ll get the video lessons up for you. I need more content tailored to what people want to know rather than just what I can teach. You want to learn things that I know, seems like a good match.

Haha, it’s still in the case. I don’t think I will ever get around to learning it.
