3 Affiliate Marketing Tips

by Bryn Youngblut on November 4, 2008

1. Shared hosting

We all started there. Your first server was most likely a $5 shared hosting account or something similar. That’s all fine and dandy…until your getting ‘digg like’ traffic as I often call it. A shared host is not going to be able to withstand that type of traffic and keep your landing pages/tracking loading fast. I’m not saying you can’t do it because trust me I did when I first started and a hostgator shared account works just fine. Once you’ve stepped it up and you’re getting thousands of hits a day that’s when you NEED to get a dedicated server. If your site loads slow you are going to lose a ton of leads/sales. The $200 or so to get a dedicated server is going to surpass the amount you will lose if you’re site is loading slow, just think about it that way. I use hostgator for my dedicated servers and have never had a problem, they are pure awesome.

2. Reading e-books looking for the “secret” to success

I might be off on this but I have personally never read an e-book in my life. I know what they are and why people write them. I’m not saying there isn’t any good ones out there because I’m sure there is, I’m just too lazy to read books. Put it this way, there’s no secret to success. Ok fine there is, it’s called HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION. I honestly should write a secret to success e-book and just put that in it. I could probably sell millions.

If you’re looking for information to get started or improve your knowledge the best things you can do are search on google, read affiliate marketing forums and get connected with other people in the affiliate marketing game. I recommend reading wickedfire (just be weary of the links you click) for anyone, amateur or pro and if your really new ppc-coach is a great place to start. It costs $50 a month but most members make that back in their first month (and some their first day), it’s well worth it for newbies.

3. Jumping on the band wagon too late

You’ve probably by now seen a lot of people talking about wu-yi and acai berry diets as huge money makers. Well trust me, they are. The thing is by the time you’ve heard about it (especially if it’s on wickedfire) it’s probably already too late. A lot of people make attempts at these offers but don’t really have the dough to be testing them thoroughly enough to weed out what keywords are working. You end up spending a few hundred and losing money then ultimately giving up. What I would recommend doing is try out offers not many people are doing, even if they look stupid and you have no interest in them at all. My most successful campaigns are ones I would NEVER even look at if I was on the other side, nor would I do whats required for a lead. The thing is there’s thousands, if not millions of people out there that might. You will never know unless you try. Find your own niche and research it until you can’t read anymore, learn it so you can pretend you are the prospect.

Bryn – Hostgator reseller accounts; shared or dedicatd? They have to at least be better then “normal” shared, right?

I personally can’t manage dedicated hosting. Managing server is something i never tried so what would you suggest and also thanks for tips for beginners in AM. Now, i told a guy that i am learning PPC thing so i can try Affiliate marketing but he said PPC is not main thing and market research is main thing. What do you think about that and how should i research?

Dedicated servers aren’t too difficult to set up, with Hostgator it’s all through a WHM and Cpanel (cpanel is really easy to use). Hostgator has great support and they will help you set everything up without a problem.

As far as AM/PPC goes I would say once you’ve decided the offer(s) you want to promote do research on them, then start with a broad PPC campaign, find out what works and what doesn’t then you just constantly tweak it from there until your profiting.

When people say first select an offer to promote and then do a research on them, what do they exactly mean. What things should i take care of when researching. Basically research of what?
Please help me in this πŸ™‚

Good question. Basically choose an offer on whatever affiliate network you want to use or are with. Then research it, find out who else is running the offer, look at how their advertising it, what they’re doing that’s working, how they set they’re landing page up, etc. That or flip it around and search for something like “Payday loans” for instance and see which ones seem to be getting promoted more than others. There’s so many different ways to start It’s really hard to just say what to do.
