I know a lot of you who have me on facebook probably notice I golf a lot.

Golf is one of my favorite things too do. I get to enjoy the outdoors and relax.

Mainly I stick to golfing during the weekdays because it tends too be less busy and anyone who has golfed before knows that waiting 15 minutes at the next tee block and having another group on your ass is really annoying.

I feel blessed that I can play anytime I feel like it and try to take advantage of it as much as possible.

How is golf like affiliate marketing?

I guess you can compare parts of this to lots of other sports or things but this is what I think about when I play.

Golf is hard. Affiliate Marketing is hard.

I run into people all the time who say they suck at golf and there is no way they could ever get good. This type of mentality irritates me, about any sport or subject really.

If you REALLY WANT TO DO SOMETHING you can do it.

The other day a friend said, “I suck at chipping, I’ll never be good at it, how do you do it?”

I replied quiet simply, “Well…I used practice in my backyard for hours on end multiple times a week.”

You have to WANT to be good at whatever it is. Excuses and complaining just hold you back and you will never make any progress.

OK so back to how I think Golf is similar too affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is hard and what I have seen it’s much harder these days then it ever was.

Just like golf you need to PRACTICE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER until you figure out what works.

Tiger woods didn’t just walk on a golf course and shoot well, he worked his ass off since he was a kid.

No successful affiliate marketer uploaded an ad and started making millions on their first campaign, it just doesn’t happen.

Too the point

I guess what it all boils down too is if you aren’t in this 200% then you are wasting yours and likely others time.

With anything in life you have to WANT it for what it is. Don’t look at the money others make and assume it’s easy and won’t take A LOT of work.

If that was the case I would start a grocery chain tomorrow and hope walmart doesn’t destroy me. Probably not the best example but you get the point..

Many people I talk too including myself fell into this industry some random way or another and have embraced it ever since. We are so lucky to be in this awesome industry.

Iʹm a firm believer that in the theory that people only do their best at things they truly enjoy. It is difficult to excel at something you donʹt enjoy.

I just had this error on my prosper202, it seems an update or something with MySQL caused the table to crash and I could not find a solution anywhere so I am posting this for anyone who has this issue in the future.

SELECT COUNT(*) FROM 202_cronjobs WHERE cronjob_type='secon' AND
cronjob_time='1373633941'

Table './yourdb_yourdb/202_cronjobs' is marked as crashed and should be
repaired

Simply go to your WHM or whatever your servers admin panel is and start the “Repair a MySQL Service”.

This should fix the crashed table. I know it seems simple but I didn’t know wtf to do at first.

Hope this helps someone!

I found this simple but awesome PPV target scaling script years ago I believe on the Affbook/PPV Playbook forums (they are awesome btw and yes that is my referral link).

Here is a screenshot for an example of what it does:

ppv target scaling

You would be surprised just how much traffic these variations can get and most of the time with ZERO competition.

Why bid high with lots of others on credit.com when you can bid on:

credit.c

credit.co

/credit.c

/credit.co   etc.

Before this script I used to do this manually…yeah FML.

That screenshot is my self hosted version, it’s a very plain simple script but takes a second to use and does wonders for scaling out ppv campaigns.

I searched around and believe I found the original creator. I guess they just gave out the script back in the day on the forums then later made a post about it where others can use it (after a tweet or share): http://moneymachinefactory.org/blog/scale-your-ppv-campaign-with-this-script/

If you want a self hosted version just let me know I’m sure I can send you the file but realistically there is no data collection or anything so I don’t see any risk using the one on their site.

Wow, it has been an incredible ride over the last few years and I really don’t see it ending any time soon as long as my passion is still there.

I still can’t believe everything that has happened but I really do love this industry and the opportunities it has given me.

We live in a time where millionaires are made over night and where people can make more money in a single day then the average person makes in a month.

When I look back a few years ago and money was starting to really come in my mindset was all wrong. I thought you had to show off wealth to prove your worth. Not only do I laugh at this now but if you saw me anywhere you would see the most average looking person. I wear blank $5 t-shirts, flip flops and a John Deere camouflage hat.

I think one of the worst things I used to do was judge people at conferences based on their appearance or how they handled themselves. People who I thought weren’t worth talking to, have now sold their businesses for millions.

Do whatever it is that makes you happy but just remember to always be true to yourself.

Help others when you can without expecting anything back in return.

Here’s to the next few years!

I have seen very good results by simply adding a Facebook “Like” button on my landing pages. Put it somewhere below but close to where you want the visitor to interact, your email submit, click here button, etc.

Of course you’re going to want some “likes” to begin with so it doesn’t hurt to purchase a few hundred to get it rolling, then it can naturally grow from there.

Some tests I have done showed the like button almost doubled the conversion rate which is pretty huge for something so simple.

Time to add a Google +1 into the mix?

I just found this post I wrote a few months back I never published, anyway I just read it and it’s a good read so I figured I would post it.

Remember the first time you “hit it big”? Let’s say your goal was to make $100 a day (that’s a fair enough starting goal for anyone). The day you hit that number and exceed it was probably one of the most exciting days of your life. Not because of the amount, but because of the validation you got from it. The fact that you proved to yourself that it is possible to make enough money to live on is amazing in its own right.

After a few days or weeks of achieving your $100/day goal you decide to increase it, let’s say you stay modest and move up to $250/day. Having goals is good, if you don’t have goals to work towards it’s very likely you won’t get far.

Eventually you hit your new goal and move up to $500/day. Now things are starting to look really good. Party time? Not yet, we got sales to increase.

A week later sales are increasing and you decide 500 is weak, you jump to $1000/day as your new goal. Dam things are looking real good now. A month ago you were at a measly $100/day, now were doing that in a matter of hours. See a pattern yet?

A week or two later you hit your $1000/day goal and decide it’s time to go big, you raise your goal to $5k/day. Sounds crazy at this point right? Well maybe, but maybe not.

Three weeks later you hit your $5k/day goal. Party time! Everything is awesome right? You are now making more money than you could have ever dreamed before. You are still not satisfied.

You set your new goal at $10k/day.

Sales are good and slowly increasing…when all of a sudden, BAM. The advertiser decided they don’t like your traffic anymore. You panic. You try to find other offers to replace it but nothing can compare and now you are losing money.

Your sales slump so low you are now losing money and have to pause the campaign. You are now making $0/day. Well this kinda sucks.

I know this particular scenario (maybe not in the exact way or figures) has happened to many people, myself included. Although it sucks, this type of thing happens to people every day. The ones who prosper are the ones who learn from it.

You need to look back at everything and try to figure out what happened. Why did the advertiser cut me off? There could be a ton of reasons why:

  • Did you start sending shady or lower quality traffic to increase overall sales?
  • Did you change your marketing practices (ads or landing page) in a way that might drive lower quality traffic?
  • Did you start washing in unapproved traffic sources?

Regardless of what the reason is, you obviously started out great but as you progress and strive to increase traffic, greed can sometimes get in the way.

What you need to focus on is the long term. If you don’t provide quality and think about the advertiser you will never last.

It took me a long time to actually realize this. Years ago when I was first starting out I didn’t even think twice about what an advertisers needs were. All I knew was that I could send them traffic and get paid more money for it than I had spent. If they cut me off, I can just move to another advertiser and do the same thing, etc. This isn’t how a long term business works. If you are serious about this industry and want to last you need to start thinking long term.

I’ve been more on the advertiser side of things for about a year now and have learned a ton I never knew about this side of the business, and I still have a shit load to learn. The main thing I did learn though has to do with quality. If the affiliates and the networks aren’t all thinking about the quality then the relationships will not last.

I just found out the other day that I have basically being getting ripped off by Aweber for a long time. Maybe it was my fault for not looking into the billing more but the way they outline it makes it seem like it would be accurate. This is not the case.

Did you know Aweber counts all unsubscribed users on your list as part of your list total? Let’s say you have 50,000 people who have unsubscribed, these people would cost you an extra $400 PER MONTH. You can’t even send email to these people yet they want you to pay for them, why? They say it’s because people like to have the unsubscriber data to see where people drop off the list. OK that is a fair enough reasoning, but should they really be billing you for that? If anything make a separate rate for unsubscribed users that would be a lot less.

The only way to not be billed for your unsubscribed users is to delete them from your list.

I don’t know if or what other e-mail marketing companies charge for this but I know GetResponse doesn’t.

Personally I think this is ridiculous and I am glad I switched to GetResponse.

If you haven’t noticed a lot of the “hot” offers come and go faster than a blowjob on prom night.

This might be OK if you like the quick buck, but this way of thinking isn’t the proper way to build a sustainable business.

If you want to still be in this business a year from now you need to focus on the long term.

  • Build quality email lists
  • Grow relationships with advertisers, networks and other affiliates
  • Gain trust in the industry
  • Network as much as possible
  • Focus on long term niches that will never go away (for example: debt, finance, loans, credit, education, insurance, etc.)
  • Provide quality leads and traffic

Yeah the quick and easy money is great, but when the gravy train ends it’s a lot hard to get started again. Long term is the only way to go in my opinion.

This is mostly useful for ads like facebook where it’s a bitch to remake them and get approved.

I was recently moving some of my tracking domains to a new server and for whatever reason some of my links stopped working, I guess the latest database backup I made didn’t have the right records in it.

Anyway there is a VERY EASY fix to this. I will just go through how to fix it with a basic example below.

Say this is your link that is broken:    http://mycooltrackingdomain.com/tracking202/redirect/dl.php?t202id=11441&t202kw=

  1. Record the number in the link here (t202id=11441) just the 11441 part.
  2. Now go to Setup > Get links
  3. Generate a new link for the campaign that you’re trying to make the above link work again. Record the t202id= value for that newly generated link.
  4. Login to your websites cpanel (found at mycooltrackingdomain.com/cpanel for example) and open phpMyAdmin.
  5. Find the table called 202_trackers and click browse.
  6. Under tracker_id_public find the number you recorded in step 3 and click the little pencil icon to the left to edit that row.
  7. Change the tracker_id_public value to the one recorded in Step 1.

That’s it, your old link now works again!
